Bass Pro Shops, legally BPS Direct, LLC, is a privately held American outdoor retailer founded in 1972 by Johnny Morris, who began selling fishing tackle out of the back of his father's liquor store in Springfield, Missouri. The company sells hunting, fishing, camping, boating and other outdoor recreation gear through large destination stores, catalogs and e-commerce, and manufactures boats and ATVs through White River Marine Group and Tracker. It acquired rival Cabela's in a $4.5 billion deal and operates outdoor resorts and attractions including Big Cedar Lodge and the Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium.
