Sanford Health is a nonprofit, integrated health care delivery system headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, with co-headquarters in Fargo and Bismarck, North Dakota, and Bemidji, Minnesota. Its roots go back to the opening of Sioux Falls Hospital in 1894; the Sioux Valley Health System was renamed Sanford Health in 2007 after philanthropist T. Denny Sanford's $400 million gift. It is the largest rural health system in the United States, operating 56 medical centers and 288 clinic locations with roughly 55,000 employees. The system also runs the Good Samaritan Society senior care organization and the Sanford World Clinic program.
