The University of Pennsylvania (Penn) is a private Ivy League research university in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded in 1740 by Benjamin Franklin. One of the largest employers in the Philadelphia region, Penn spans schools including the Wharton School, the Perelman School of Medicine and the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and operates the Penn Medicine health system.
